Managing Partner
Brian Grover is the founder and Managing Partner of Nolen Communities. He is responsible for executing Nolen’s strategic direction, leveraging 16 years of real estate, planning, and development experience to envision and ultimately bring to life innovative communities. Nolen Communities was founded on his desire to connect people to where they live. He is focused on creating both value for his partners and a truly unique living experience for residents.
Prior to founding Nolen, Brian spent most of his career rising the ranks to Principal at Dudek, a planning and environmental consulting firm based in San Diego. His clientele consisted almost entirely of residential developers, and his work ranged from entitling large master-planned communities to infill redevelopment projects. His services included land acquisition (site selection and due diligence), jurisdictional coordination, site design, planning, entitlement processing, environmental analysis, public outreach, land development, and disposition. He has successfully entitled hundreds of residential development projects throughout the State of California, and has established strong working relationships with city/county staff along the way.
Brian has a B.S. in Structural Engineering and a minor in Urban Planning from the University of California, San Diego. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Planning and Real Estate Development from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he raced on the university’s ski team. He is a certified planner (since 2010) through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), and is an active member of the American Planning Association, Urban Land Institute, Lambda Alpha International, and the San Diego Building Industry Association, where he serves on the Board of the City/County Legislative Committee and was named Consultant of the Year in 2016. In 2019, Brian was honored as a Next Top 40 Business Leaders Finalist by the San Diego Business Journal. He formerly served on the City of Encinitas Environmental Commission (2010 – 2014), and currently serves as Chair of the City’s Traffic and Public Safety Commission. He guest lectures at local universities, including the University of San Diego’s Burnham and Moores School of Real Estate and the Urban Planning Program at the University of California, San Diego. Brian and his wife, Laurie, live in Encinitas with their newborn daughter Haley and their dog Ruth.
